Forest Hedgehog grass

Echinopogon ovatus

This grows to a height of up to 1.2 m arising from a slender, often elongated rhizome, i.e. horizontal stem, usually found underground, from which roots spread out.

It is similar to the Tufted Hedgehog grass, and there is little difference between the flowers and seeds, but E. ovatus differs in that it does not grow in tufts.
The inset is a dried pressed seed head from this plant.
