Typha orientalis

This erect herb grows to 2-3 m. high. It is common in fresh water ponds and creeks and spreads by means of fleshy white rhizomes (underground stems) sending up regular vertical shoots which each producing a flower containing both male producing pollen parts (upper) and lower persisting parts producing up to 200,000 seeds each.
